Hurricane Odile came as an unfortunate addition to vacations in Cabo San Lucas this week, and now, in the midst of the clean up operation, the question posed is how prepared were the hotels and resorts in Cabo San Lucas for a phenomenon such as Hurricane Odile.

Reports from Villa del Palmar and Villa del Arco resorts in Cabo San Lucas and reviews suggest that the Villa Group resorts faired well against the pounding of Hurricane Odile when it struck the Baja California peninsula on Monday 15th September, 2014 as Mexico prepared for its Independence Day celebrations. The category 3 hurricane stormed through the peninsula slowly losing its strength, but not before causing damage to beachfront stores and bars as well as Los Cabos airport.
Villa del Palmar Cabo reported having electricity and water almost as soon as the gales of Hurricane Odile had begun to subside. Villa del Palmar Cabo has its own generator, which provided enough energy to maintain the resort and even have one of its restaurants fully operational. Besides some general superficial damage, Villa del Palmar Cabo is already up and running to receive guests just as soon as the airport reopens for inbound flights on September 26.
A spokesperson for Villa del Palmar Cabo affirmed that all of the Villa Group’s resorts are built in accordance with the highest levels of construction, both in terms of architectural design and robustness. Materials of a high quality are used with the intention of being able to withstand the high wind speeds expected under hurricane conditions.
Villa del Palmar Cabo beach resort and spa was also commended for its evacuation procedures, and the professional commitment of staff to ensure the safe return of its guests or, in the event that guests were unable to get home before Hurricane Odile hit, to make them as comfortable as possible.
Upon hearing the news of Hurricane Odile’s landfall, sister resort, Villa del Palmar Puerto Vallarta immediately began collecting bottled water, canned items and other essentials to send to those most affected by Hurricane Odile’s visit. The use of two private planes were donated too as Los Cabos airport remained closed to incoming chartered and scheduled flights.
